I should have known this was coming

Yesterday morning Michael went into Katie's room after she got up to keep her company while I got out of bed. He helped her out of the crib and they both came out into the hallway.

Katie went down for her nap in the afternoon. When she wakes up, she calls to me to come get her out of the crib. Yesterday I heard her wake up on the monitor. By the time I got upstairs, she was at the top of the stairs. Katie had climbed out of the crib by herself. Since then, she has climbed out this morning when she woke up and several times last night to go to the bathroom.

She is moving to a big girl bed after Christmas so this was just right around the corner anyway. We are going to take the front of the crib off and make it a toddler bed until she gets the new mattress. To be honest, I am surprised that she stayed in the crib this long.

Diaper Dilemma

For the past few weeks, Katie has been waking up with a soaking wet diaper just about every morning. At first, I thought that it was time to move up to the next size so I tried that. When that didn't solve the problem, I put one diaper on the right way and a second diaper on top of that backwards. Still didn't work. I tried waterproof pants and putting a onesie on her underneath her PJs. No success there.

The reason that none of these solutions work is because Katie is constantly sticking her hand down the front of her diaper and pushing it down. When this happens, the diaper is not providing enough coverage and the leaking results. At least we have 2 of the ultimate crib sheets that I can rotate as they have to be changed every day.

I keep hoping that she will stop this habit and try not to pay much attention to it. But it's hard when she keeps wetting her clothes. It's kind of funny in a way because this is something that I would expect a boy to do. I don't really think of girls putting their hands down their pants. I know that she is just curious but I am wondering when she will grow out of this phase. In the meantime, I guess I will just be washing sheets every day!

First night in her room alone

Katie spent last night sleeping in her room for the first time since she was born! And she did great. She has been sleeping in a bassinet in our room after we brought her home from the hospital. The first week or so, she was sleeping with us a good bit but then I started putting her in the bassinet.

Her sleeping has been a little off lately and I thought that maybe she was a little too cramped in the bassinet. So I decided that Tuesday night would be the night for the crib. I put her down in it around 9:00 and she slept until 6:15 the next morning. That was success to me.

She likes to move around while she sleeps. I put her down in the crib one way and when I came back, she had turned her body around about 90 degrees. What's funny is that she now has some extra room but still sleeps with her legs in what I like to call the "ballerina position". Michael always slept completely stretched out and he outgrew the bassinet sometime shortly after he turned 2 months old.

Here are some pictures of her first night in her crib:
