9 years

It's hard to believe that it's already been 9 years since Todd and I were married. And even harder to believe that we will celebrate our 10th anniversary next year! Time goes by so fast.

I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful and supportive husband that I can share anything with. He truly makes me happy and is the best friend I could ask for. I look forward to waking up every day and seeing him and can't wait to see him at the end of the day. He is also such an awesome father. I love watching him teach Michael new things or rock Katie to sleep for a nap.

Todd, I love you so much and look forward to spending many more years together!

Like Father Like Son

One of Michael's favorite things to do is to "help" Todd out when he is doing things around the house and in the yard. Today he was mowing the lawn and this is how Michael was "helping". It was so cute to see what is to come with my two men working in the yard and I know Todd is looking forward to the day when he can turn over the task of mowing the lawn to Michael.

She's sitting by herself!

Less than a week after Katie turned 6 months old, she learned how to sit up by herself. She had been doing it for a few seconds for about a week or so but just started being able to sit up for a few minutes. It's amazing how one day she is just trying something out and then it seems like she has gotten so much stronger and confident in doing it in a matter of days. She can sit up for about 5 minutes or so by herself now, unless Michael comes near her or she falls over.

She was sitting in her room the other night and she teetered and fell over. For about 5 seconds, she just laid there and then she started crying. It was cute and i knew she really wasn't hurt. Here is a video of the incident:

Date Night

Todd and I went on our first date tonight since Katie was born in March. I think the last time we went out together on a date was for my birthday in January! That's too long to go by without having some time alone together. We did go to Michael's preschool orientation and to run some errands without kids but that's not the same.

We decided to eat at the Olive Garden. Our dinner was good and the conversation was even better. It was nice to be able to eat a meal without having a baby in one arm or having to watch Thomas! This was really the unofficial dinner to celebrate our ninth anniversary, which is on the 30th of September.

We really enjoyed ourselves and I think we shouldn't let this long go by without another date night. Looking forward to celebrating our anniversary next week!

Where did he go?

Today we took Michael to get a haircut this morning. The haircut ritual has developed from the fear that he had the first time (and the second and the third) to accepting that it has to be done to actually enjoying it. Michael likes to look good, as he has to approve what he wears every day. He is our little fashionista and I joke that he didn't come from me.

But as he was getting his hair cut, I realized that he was looking more like a little boy and less like a toddler. I wondered how time could fly by so fast and what happened to the baby that was born just a little more than 3 years ago. At the same time, I am really enjoying the little man that Michael is growing up to be. He definitely has his moments but he is so loving. And as the haircut was coming to an end and I looked over at him, I thought that he also seems so much bigger since Katie has arrived.

Here is a picture of the little man that he has become:

6 month checkup

We went to Katie's 6 month checkup yesterday. She now weighs 15lbs 10oz (50%) and is 27.5 inches long (95%). She was 7lbs 8.8oz and 19 inches when she was born so she has grown quite a bit. She also got 3 shots, which didn't make her too happy. She wanted to be held for most of the day and ran a fever from Friday night through this afternoon. We will have to go back next month to get her flu booster shot and probably the H1N1 shot as well. Can't believe how fast she is growing!!

1/2 down, 1/2 to go

Katie is 1/2 year old today! Can't believe how fast the time is flying by. As I was sitting with her at 9:12am, I was thinking about how she was just being born 6 months earlier. I remembered how it felt to see her for the first time and hear her newborn cries. She was definitely not happy to be out of the womb at first.

She is such a calm and happy baby. It's so much fun to make her laugh and she loves her big brother Michael very much. He has a way with her that is quite remarkable. I am amazed to see the transformation in him from my baby to Katie's big brother. He seems so big to me now, even as Katie gets bigger and bigger.

We have Katie's 6 month checkup tomorrow at the pediatrician. I am anxious to see how much she has grown. She is a little talker and loves to squeal. If you hold her up by her arms, she can support her body weight on her legs. I have even stood her up against the table and she can stand up there for about 30 seconds before tumbling to the ground. She can sit up for about 5 seconds before falling over and only if I get her into the seated position.

Still no teeth here but I think one is about to emerge. I have felt it through her gums. On the eating front, she started solids shortly after turning 5 months old. She has already had cereal, bananas, plums, sweet potato and avocado. Not sure what we will try next but there are lots of possibilities as I am making the food at home this time around.

Sleeping is going well at night as she typically sleeps for at least 11 hours. The daytime presents a bit more of a challenge but we are up anyway then and I would rather her sleep well at night.

We are enjoying our Katie and having a great time watching her learn new things and explore her world. Looking forward to the next 6 months and seeing how much she changes!

Go Gamecocks!

Tonight was the first game of the season for the South Carolina Gamecocks vs. the NC State Wolfpack. The Gamecocks won 7-3 in Raleigh, NC. Todd watched the game and Michael even watched a little bit. But the one person who didn't watch the game at all was probably the biggest fan and dressed accordingly.....
