Change is Good

Both Katie and Michael are going to start taking a new heart medication this month as a result of our trip to Johns Hopkins.  They are going to be changing from Atenolol to Losartin.  The first day for Katie was Friday.  Instead of taking one pill per night, she is now going to be taking 1.5.  The first day for Michael was Saturday.  Instead of taking one pill in the morning and two at night, he will now just be taking 1.5 pills at night.  I hope that this will make things a bit easier as they will now be taking the same dosage.  This is due to the fact that their weight is very close to each other.

Michael doesn't seem to be having any problems adjusting to the new medication but Katie was extremely tired today.  She and Todd were out visiting his mom and doing some shopping.  Todd tol me that she fell asleep in the car 3 different times, the first time being at 12:30pm.  That is extremely rare for her and I can think of no other cause than the change in medication.  We will definitely be keeping an eye on her.  The funniest part about it was that she was ready for bed at the regular time after all of those catnaps!  Normally those would result in a really late bedtime.

Looking Back

I have been working on cleaning up the pictures on my laptop and camera memory card.  The kids love looking through pictures on my computer too.  Here are a few pictures from this week over the past few years:

Water Balloon Fun

I went to the pool on Monday with Michael, Katie and the 3 kids I was watching for the day.  I was exhausted after that.  I think the ratio of 1:5 was a bit much.  It was still hot out today though and the kids wanted to play with water balloons.  So I set up the slip and slide in the backyard, along with the play slide and filled 36 water balloons.  My finger was so sore after tying all of those balloons.  You would think someone would come up with a better way to fill the balloons!

The kids wanted to play with the balloons but didn't want them to break right away.  They took turns rolling the balloons down the slide into the water and following them down.  It was a great way to keep cool but kept it interesting.  At the end of the playtime, they took turns breaking the ones that were left before heading on the porch to eat popsicles.  I love summer fun!

Family, Friends and Fun

We headed out on Friday night for our annual visit to Johns Hopkins for doctor's visits for Todd, Katie and Michael.  On the way up, we planned to see some family and friends before the appointments since we were heading straight back afterwards.

Friday night we drove up to Michelle and Alex's house and spent the night there.  We got there pretty late but were able to hang out in the morning before leaving in the early afternoon.  It also gave us some time with Lila.  The kids love to hold her (with a little help), especially Katie.

We headed out and drove about 5 hours to visit friends in Maryland.  Megan, Bill, Claire and David opened their home to let us spend the night with them.  Megan is one of my sorority sisters from college and it was great to be able to catch up.  It's been a few years since I have seen her.  We also got to meet her kids for the first time.  Katie and Michael got along quite well with Claire, who is 4.  I think it helped that she shared all of her toys :)  As we headed out on Sunday afternoon, Michael said that it was really nice that they let us stay at their house over night and he would love to go back another time.

Our last stop before the appointments was visiting family in New Jersey.  We got to see my grandmom, several aunts and cousins at a bridal shower for my cousin on Sunday afternoon.  It is often chaotic but it's great to be able to go to one place to see so many family members.  The kids also got to swim in the pool at my aunt's house, which made them happy.  We headed to Aunt Fran's house and spent the night there before leaving in the morning to go to Baltimore for the first doctor appointment of the week.

It was a whirlwind weekend.  Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of any of the visits but we had a great time.  Thanks to everyone for their hospitality too!!

Unplanned Blogging Break

I just looked back and realize it's been over 2 weeks since I have blogged.  We have been keeping busy with activities both at home and away including several weekend trips.  I have also started several posts that I intend to finish when I actually sit down at the computer with my camera.  It doesn't look like things are going to slow down anytime soon.  It's kind of ironic that so many more things are happening in the summer yet there is so much less time to blog about them!
